I have been working on creating a board game called Punjabble for about 3 years now. It is similar to Scrabble; however, it is a punjabi version of it. It gives players the opportunity to make words by joining the letters and earning points. In addition, players can then speak sentences including the word they made to get extra points ssay lines of scripture that include that word to get even more points.
Ever since I have introduced the Punjabble pins idea, I have seen a much drastic increase in the intensity and engagement than ever before. There are 3 types of pins that were made. One is a green star which is achieved if you receive 100 points after playing Punjabble for 10 minutes, yellow star is for players who earn 300 points and red star pins are for players that earn 500 points.
The first day when I received the pins, my wife who was often reluctant to playing this game jumped in to play along with her sister. It was competitive and there was an intensity between them that I had not seen before. After the game was over, the scores were calculated and the pins were rewarded. My wife quickly took pictures and shared her achievement on social media.
This artefact helped me learn and apply the idea of providing a promise of reward for doing what is asked, i.e., transactive leadership (Avolio, 2011) . I got to see first hand, the benefits of using Transactive leadership; however my future goal is to work on being more of a transformational leader when interacting with the players who are striving for the rewards. One positive step I have taken to be more transformational is that I have been updating a padlet website that I created which I use to provide individualized consideration to each player (Avolio, 1999). I use it to track how many points they have earned, and players can write their monthly goal and their development plan for the month.
